Vote in the Classified Senate Election
The time has come again to vote for new Senators and Officers to the De Anza College
Classified Senate. It is essential to have a cohesive senate leadership to make our voice heard in the shared governance process. Your visionary
leadership actions are necessary to implement changes to our college culture and processes.
Vote to make your choices for classified colleagues to lead and represent classified
professionals. The election closes this Thursday, May 18, at 8 a.m.
Many of you have expressed the need to change and improve our culture and process.
This is your chance to do something about it and get involved in the shared governance
process, and the Classified Senate is an excellent place to begin. Your involvement
with a participatory committee broadens your knowledge of our institution and creates
a stronger sense of connection to it and your colleagues. Let us influence the change.
Vacant Positions

The President-Elect may become President in their second year. If the Classified Senate
President position is vacant or vacated, the President-Elect will serve as the acting
President. The President-Elect serves as the chair of the By-Laws Committee and takes
on a leadership/mentorship role for one of the Areas of Focus. Together with the Executive
Council, the President-Elect will determine which Shared Governance committees he/she/they
will serve on, often in a leadership/tri-chair position. This role is expected to
exceed the allotted four hours per week of Shared Governance work.

The Treasurer accepts contributions, disburses funds, maintains financial records,
and submits financial reports to the Senate. The Treasurer also set up the budget
for the Executive Council and Senate approval. The Treasurer will serve as a mentor
for one of our Areas of Focus and may also serve on an additional Shared Governance
committee. This role is expected to fall within the allotted four hours per week of
Shared Governance work but may exceed these hours.

The Senator Designees provide support in their Area of Focus. They may serve on a
Shared Governance committee in their area of focus but are not obligated to do so.
This role is intended as a learning opportunity for those who are new to Classified
Senate and Shared Governance. Senator Designees should plan to spend approximately
two hours per week on their work and in meetings in this role. However, the work may
exceed the allocated four hours (10% of regular hours).
